At your post, follow procedure, and before doing a favor outside procedure, think through who bears responsibility

In plain words
Take nurses as an example: the regulation says that on finding a patient in critical condition, they must notify the doctor at once, and on finding a doctor's order that breaks the rules, they must raise it with the doctor who gave it. It is the same in other posts: first see where your own procedure draws the line at "must report." The law also does not require anyone to stand by: if you voluntarily give emergency help and hurt the person, you do not have to pay compensation.

Free. At work, follow the rules, the doctor's orders and the process. Don't make decisions for others outside your own authority. Before you help, ask yourself: if something goes wrong, who is responsible? The hard part is holding firm on the spot against requests to "make an exception."
- What you get
-
Taking nurses as an example, the regulations set the limits of duty like this. On finding a patient in critical condition, notify the doctor at once. In an emergency, to save a patient in danger of death, a nurse may first carry out the necessary emergency care. On finding a doctor's order that is illegal or breaks diagnosis and treatment standards, the nurse must raise it with the doctor and, if necessary, report to the head of the department. The Civil Code (民法典) has another rule: someone who voluntarily gives emergency help and injures the person helped does not have to pay compensation (does not bear civil liability) (nationwide)
- Notes
-
Within your post, follow procedure, and emergency rescue is protected by law. For everything else, first sort out whose authority and whose responsibility it is, and don't let private goodwill stand in for a decision the system makes. The Nurses Regulation (护士条例) was revised in 2020 by State Council Order No. 726, which changed only the registration provisions and left Article 17 untouched. The clause in the Physicians Law (医师法) on practicing according to diagnosis and treatment standards could not be checked against the official original this time, so it is not cited.

Translated from the Chinese original. Original book, section 12, tip 22. This section describes legal rules, mostly mainland China’s. It is general information, not legal advice; for your own case, talk to a lawyer. Content may be out of date and rules differ by place. When you actually deal with an agency, a doctor or a court, follow what local officials, doctors and lawyers tell you. Disclaimer
